Patna: In a progressive move to strengthen women’s empowerment in Bihar, the state cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, approved a ₹225.78 crore allocation for the ambitious ‘Mahila Samwad’ programme. This initiative will see the CM, ministers, and top officials actively engaging with women across districts to inform them about various government policies and gather their feedback.
Key Highlights of ‘Mahila Samwad’:
Grassroots Engagement: The programme will be conducted at district and block levels, ensuring direct interaction with women in rural areas.
Women-Centric Policies: Participants will learn about ongoing schemes and policies aimed at empowering women.
Understanding Aspirations: The programme also seeks to understand the expectations and aspirations of women to align government initiatives with their needs.
CM’s Involvement: Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is expected to attend several events, with cabinet ministers and officials covering other locations.
This initiative, spearheaded by the Rural Development Department, is expected to launch next month, with a detailed circular to be issued soon. Women, who form nearly 48% of Bihar’s total voters, are set to play a pivotal role in shaping the state’s developmental trajectory through this dialogue-based approach.

Increased Ex-Gratia for Martyred Soldiers
In another significant decision, the Bihar government has enhanced the ex-gratia amount for the families of martyred soldiers and central armed police forces personnel.
The compensation has been increased to ₹21 lakh from the earlier ₹11 lakh.
Families of soldiers martyred in operations or war-like situations, whether residents of Bihar or not, will now receive this enhanced amount.
This proposal, mooted by the Home Department, underscores the state’s commitment to honoring the sacrifices of its soldiers.
These steps reflect Bihar’s focus on inclusive growth and its dedication to recognizing and addressing the needs of its citizens.
